Welcome you have stumbled upon a little known web portal belonging to the Class of 64 – Newtown High School Reunion website from Powys in Mid-Wales, UK. We are in a kind of hibernating mode at the moment sort of in-between reunions, our last reunion which was also our first was held on July 4th and 5th 2003 to coincide with our 50th year, at this moment in time we are not sure when the next one will be held.

All of usUnlike American schools who refer to their graduation day as the year of their class. Because we all left at different times September 1964 was the year we started our High School education, thus it was decided this would be our year.

Thanks to everyone who attended the reunion, for turning a good night out, into a really great night! Thanks to Sue Redford, Elfyn Pugh, Graham Owen and John Richards for sending in their Photos. Also Georgina and Francine Jones for their photographic skills. And Glenys Foulkes for baking a terrific cake (below).

Two years ago in a conversation at the Queens Head with Phil Kenyon the idea for a reunion was born. From a few alcoholic murmurings, Phil was going to get together a few people, we agreed to meet on the first Wednesday in August. Those present were Gaenor James (Hughes), Phil Kenyon, Phil Woolley, Alan Roberts, Jimmy Jones, Alan Bridge, Larry Jarman and myself (Paul Jones) - Shirley Howells (Morgan) and Dave Owen joined us at the next meeting in October to complete the group.

Hearing about reunions from other years we knew it would be pretty good, but the reunion turned out great, the atmosphere was fantastic!! And really, it was all down to all of you who attended. We had an email from Colin Bliss, incredulous! That he was expected to travel halfway around the world for a few hours in a nightclub. He was right of course! So we bit the bullet and took a gamble, at that time we had already agreed the price with the venue; and had already sent out a newsletter informing everyone. So with some creative accounting, wizardry and bartering from Shirley and Larry managed to pull off, a free night with a Carvery at the Football Club, on the Saturday. Which 90 plus people attended - Please don't ask how they did it.

When we initially sent out our first letter the response was terrific, we were overwhelmed with enthusiasm, but as time moved on and the Bannerreunion got nearer, the enthusiasm changed to nervousness and apprehension. Ticket sales were slow, we started to get a little concerned, but 137 people turned up in the end. We were warned that people would separate into different groups. But luckily that didn't happen; and we didn't have to employ our secret weapon (Gaenor). Everyone moved around looking to meet old friends and two nights wasn't enough. Some of you who took a lot of persuading to buy a ticket, also turned up on the Saturday. So it has all been worthwhile. We had a lot of fun organising it, but in Registerthe end the reunion only proved what we already knew! - What a great bunch of people we grew up with.!!!

So what happened in 1964? It was Mr. Nelson Jones's first year as Headmaster. The year Harold Wilson became Prime Minister. Cassius Clay defeated Sonny Liston to become world heavyweight champion. And pirate radio Caroline began broadcasting from the North Sea and a lot more. Can you remember who was No 1 that September? Yes it was “Have I the right” by the Honeycombs.

If this was your year, you can check by going to the Names Register page to see if your name is there and if you would also register with the forum and sign the guest book, make sure to bookmark this site or add it to your favourites depending which browser you have. So you can periodically call back to see what is going on. We also have a good forum with an excellent mail facility so please register and use it.
